By the Power of Grayskull, a classic-style retro brawler is officially heading to modern consoles early next year. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction has locked in a release date of February 4, 2027, bringing nostalgic 1980s action back to gaming hardware with a fresh pixel-art coat of paint.
Developed by Bitmap Bureau—the studio widely recognized for its work on Terminator 2D: No Fate—the upcoming side-scrolling brawler is being crafted in close collaboration with Mattel and the retro gaming experts at Clear River Games. When it launches, the title will be made available across multiple platforms simultaneously, hitting digital and physical storefronts for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
For physical collectors and enthusiasts of retro-styled packaging, Limited Run Games is handling two distinct physical versions of the release. Players looking to grab a physical copy for their shelves can purchase the standard physical release for $29.99, while hardcore fans of Eternia can opt for the premium Collector’s Edition, which carries a price tag of $99.99.
Dragon Pearl of Destruction draws heavy inspiration from the much-loved 1980s animated television series that defined a generation of Saturday morning cartoons. This influence is clearly visible in the game’s vibrant pixel-art aesthetics and classic 2D beat-’em-up gameplay mechanics. Rather than limiting players solely to the most famous champion of Eternia, the title features a robust roster of playable characters straight out of the lore: He-Man, She-Ra, Man-At-Arms, and Teela. Players will be able to tackle the forces of evil either on their own in solo play or team up with a friend through two-player local cooperative gameplay.

The campaign takes players across 13 diverse and iconic stages that span the length and breadth of Eternia. Among the locations confirmed to appear in the game are the majestic Royal Palace, the dense and perilous Vine Jungle, and the ominous stronghold of Snake Mountain. Along the way, players will face off against a who’s who of famous villains from the franchise, including the skeletal lord of destruction Skeletor, the wicked sorceress Evil-Lyn, the ferocious Beast Man, and the mechanical menace Trap Jaw. In addition to the primary rogue’s gallery, players will also cross paths with other notable denizens of the dark side, such as the mysterious dark sorceress Shokoti and the menacing Shadow Beasts.
For collectors willing to invest in the $99.99 Collector’s Edition, the physical package comes packed with a variety of themed memorabilia and merchandise. The release features distinctive lunchbox-style packaging that pays homage to vintage toy and merchandise trends of the 1980s, alongside collectible pin badges, a miniature replica of the Power Sword, and an acrylic standee depicting He-Man riding alongside his loyal feline companion, Battle Cat, among other exclusive items.
The anticipation surrounding Dragon Pearl of Destruction has been steadily building since its initial preview period. When the game was previewed earlier this year in August, early impressions suggested it had the potential to be the first genuinely good video game adaptation in the long and checkered history of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise.
The launch of the retro brawler also arrives at a time of renewed mainstream interest in the property, following the release of Amazon’s live-action Masters of the Universe project. While that adaptation faced a challenging run at the box office, it ultimately found a dedicated audience and achieved notable success streaming on Prime Video, setting a strong stage for the franchise’s continued expansion into interactive media. With Bitmap Bureau at the helm of development and a comprehensive rollout planned across digital and physical storefronts, fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to Eternia when Dragon Pearl of Destruction launches on February 4, 2027.
