The continuation of DC’s acclaimed animated adaptation of one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic comic book storylines finally has a release date. IGN can exclusively reveal that Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest will be available on digital storefronts, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 15, 2026.
Alongside the release date announcement, an exclusive clip and the brand-new official box art have been unveiled for the feature-length animated sequel from DC, Warner Bros. Animation, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The project continues the ambitious multi-part direct-to-video animated adaptation of the legendary 1990s comic book crossover event that forever changed the status quo of Gotham City.
The official plot synopsis for Knightquest outlines the dramatic fallout of the previous film’s crushing defeat: “Batman lies broken at the hands of the villainous mastermind Bane. With Bruce Wayne paralyzed from the waist down and unable to continue as Batman, a new successor must be chosen to defend Gotham City. Jean-Paul Valley, the man also known as Azrael, must take up the mantle of the Batman. But will his more violent methods be enough to stop Bane?”
To give fans a taste of the rising tension and friction caused by this transition of power, a newly released clip highlights a brutal encounter in Gotham. The sequence features a high-stakes chase followed by a vicious hand-to-hand fight between Nightwing, voiced by Mike Prater, and the newly appointed, highly erratic Jean-Paul Valley, voiced by Pablo Schreiber. The preview showcases the ideological and physical clash between members of the Bat-family as they struggle to cope with Bruce Wayne’s incapacitation and Azrael’s uncompromising, brutal brand of justice.
The voice cast for Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest features several notable names bringing these classic characters to life. Anson Mount, known for his work in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, returns to voice Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight. Meanwhile, Michael Mando, recognized for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, steps back into the role of the formidable mastermind Bane, who successfully broke the bat in the first installment.

The animated feature runs for 76 minutes and has officially received an R rating for strong bloody violence, indicating that the filmmakers are leaning heavily into the darker, more visceral tone of the original comic book source material. Behind the camera, the film is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, drawing directly from the iconic characters created by DC, with Batman originally created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. On the production side, Rick Morales serves as Supervising Producer alongside Producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael E. Uslan round out the creative team as Executive Producers.
Fans purchasing the digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray physical releases of Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest will also have access to a slate of special features designed to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the animated sequel. New box art and promotional images from the film showcase the imposing new armored Batsuit worn by Azrael, emphasizing the stark visual contrast between Bruce Wayne’s classic vigilante aesthetic and Jean-Paul Valley’s intimidating, militaristic redesign.
This upcoming sequel directly follows Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, which premiered earlier this year in June to a warm reception from both critics and fans alike. Reviewing the first installment, IGN’s Jesse Schedeen awarded the film a glowing 9 out of 10 score, praising its ability to streamline a massive crossover event without losing its thematic weight.
In that review, Schedeen wrote: “Batman: Knightfall Part 1 – Knightfall is a strong return to form for DC’s direct-to-video movie line. The first part of this animated trilogy succeeds in cutting through the fat and adapting the essential core of a classic Batman crossover. It paints a vivid psychological portrait of both Batman and his latest arch-nemesis. The film also looks great and boasts a talented voice cast that brings this venerable source material to life. This new DC animated trilogy is off to a great start.”
With Knightquest arriving in December to explore the tumultuous tenure of Azrael under the cowl, the overarching animated event will eventually conclude with Batman: Knightfall Part 3, which is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2027.
